WORCESTER/NORTHBRIDGE - Jeanne M. (Gregoire) Opacki, 78, of Worcester and formerly of Northbridge, died peacefully Saturday, June 6, 2009 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Northbridge on February 6, 1931, daughter of James and Lena (Jacques) Gregoire.
Jeanne is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Edward R. Opacki. She leaves a daughter, Debra Conn and her husband Michael of Holden; three sons, Kenneth Opacki and his wife Maria of Coconut Creek, FL, Daniel Opacki of Northampton and David Opacki and his wife Lee Ann of Spencer. She also leaves the pride and joy of her life, grandchildren Michelle and her husband John Saxton and Nicole Opacki; Benjamin, Hailey, and Alexandra Conn; and great-grandson Brendan Saxton. Included with her family, Jeanne leaves sisters, Lucille Chaussee of Sutton and Frances deSousa of Hopkinton, nieces, nephews, and many cousins.
Jeanne worked for St. Camillus Hospital for the chronically ill for 17 years. She was a past president of the St. Camillus Hospital Women's Guild, past member of the Whitinsville Women's Club, and served as a den mother and Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed cross-stitching, crafting baby blankets and hook rugs, traveling, and baking. Most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Jeanne never missed an opportunity to engage others in conversation. She loved staying in contact with all of her family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 10 – 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 11th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon in St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Care Hospice, Inc., 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608; or to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 1332 North Hatsted Street, Chicago, Illinois, 60642, in memory of Jeanne Opacki.
