SPENCER/HOLDEN – L. Merita (Cooney) Parker, 86, of Bullard St., died peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 7, 2009.
Merita was born in Palmer, the daughter of Harold and Elsie (Bigwood) Cooney.
She lived in Spencer with Gordon O. Parker, her husband of 57 years, who died in 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Holly R. Tomkinson of Holden, with whom she lived; a son, Jeffrey C. Parker and his wife Barbara of Brookfield; 5 grandchildren, Heather A., Victoria L. and Amanda G. Tomkinson and Sarah J. and Lila C. Parker; and 2 great-grandchildren, Louis B. Salz and Chloe A. Moore. She also leaves behind many special friends.
Merita graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester and for several years worked as an EKG technician at Memorial Hospital. Previously, she worked at Rutland Heights Hospital and Old Sturbridge Village. She was a member of the Holden Chapel. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, as well as gardening, camping, volunteering and working on a variety of art projects.
A celebration of Merita's life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16th in the Holden Chapel, Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holden Chapel, 279 Reservoir Street, Holden, MA 01520. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, is assisting the family with arrangements.
