WORCESTER – Melvin Lubowitz, age 91, died peacefully on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Jewish Healthcare Center, surrounded by the loving presence of his family.
Born in Worcester, Mel was the son of Jack and Bessie (Berolsky) Lubowitz and was a lifelong resident. After graduating from Commerce High School, he attended Worcester Junior College, earning an Associate’s Degree. Mel was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1955 - 1957. He then pursued a long career in sales, owning and operating several businesses, including retail dry goods and a liquor store. Mel was an avid Boston sports fan and a terrific candlepin bowler.
Mel will be lovingly missed and remembered by his children, Brenda Rubin and her husband, Mark of Worcester, MA, Sherri Gilman and her husband, Gary of Oracle, AZ, Patti Green and her husband, Gary of Chelmsford, MA, Michael Lubowitz and his wife, Allison of New York, NY, and Aaron Lubowitz and his wife, Karina of Harrison, NY; his grandchildren, Jennifer Rubin of Framingham, MA, Rebecca Barros and her husband, Matheus of Framingham, MA, Joel Rubin and his wife, Mary Kate of Ashland, MA, Jared Gilman and his wife, Rachel of Tucson, AZ, Adam Gilman and his wife, Kelsey Beck of Scottsdale, AZ, Matthew Green and his fiancée, Rebecca Landrith of Marlboro, MA, Ethan Lubowitz and his wife, Carla of New York, NY, Lauren Lubowitz and her husband, Jordan Helderman of New York, NY, Lindsey Lubowitz of New York, NY, Benjamin Lubowitz of New York, NY, Hannah Lubowitz of Harrison, NY, and Jordan Lubowitz of Harrison, NY; his great-grandchildren, Ayla, Ava and Margot; and his brothers, Herbert Lubowitz and his wife, Gloria, and Robert Lubowitz and his wife, Shellie. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 48 years, Dolores (Cohen) Lubowitz in 2005.
Family and friends will gather for a Funeral Service at 12:00 noon on Sunday, September 15 at Temple Emanuel Sinai, 661 Salisbury Street, Worcester. Interment will follow in the Son’s of Jacob Section at Holy Society Cemetery, Havana Road, Leicester. Memorial Observance will be announced. Arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home of Holden.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
