WORCESTER - Melissa Lynne Haringa passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, at UMass Memorial Medical Center - Lake Ave. Worcester after taking ill at home. She was 42. Born in Milford on May 7, 1981, Melissa was the daughter of Cathy L. (Cahill) Haringa and the late Joseph Haringa Jr.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her beloved husband of 7 years, Samuel Nelson; her adoring twins, Emerson H. and Ellie H. Nelson; her mother, Cathy L. (Cahill) Haringa Schiffmann and her husband, Michael J. Schiffmann of Southbridge; a brother, Jay Haringa and his wife, Heather Berkowitz of Worcester; her in-laws, Paul and Paula (Robbins) Nelson of Rutland and Florida and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Melissa was a graduate of Whitinsville Christian School, class of 1999. She attended Eastern Nazarene College and UMass Lowell finishing her bachelor's degree at Bay Path University in Long Meadow. She worked several years for the Visiting Nurse Associations of New England in Westborough before taking a position as a scheduler/credentialer at the Worcester Surgical Center where she worked for the last ten years. She also worked part-time as a home health aid for Around the Clock Home Healthcare in Westborough.
She was an accomplished musician who played the violin and cello since the age of ten. Melissa was a member of the Seven Hills Symphony. In her spare time, she played the cello in a two-member band, "Max's Monsters" and played local venues and weddings including Greendale's Pub. Melissa also enjoyed painting with acrylics. Her house walls are adorned with her work including skyscapes, nature, flowers, and her favorite, poppies scenes.
Faith was the cornerstone of her life. Beautiful inside and out, Melissa was a shining example of what it means to live a life rooted in faith, love, and service. She received her early religious formation at Pleasant Street Christian Reformed Church in Whitinsville and was recently attending bible studies at The Mill Church in Millbury.
Melissa adored her husband and twin daughters. Nothing was more important in her life than spending time with them, caring for them, and loving them.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Melissa's family from 2 to 5 pm on Sunday, July 16, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. The funeral service will be private with a memorial service at a later date.
