Biography
WORCESTER - Mel Katz, age 73, died on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at UMASS Memorial Healthcare, University Campus, hands held gently by his beloved wife, and best friend of over 50 years, Harriett R. (Horowitz) Katz.
Besides his wife, he leaves two children, Marla O'Connor and her husband, Sean of Holden, along with his three adored grandchildren, Matthew, Caitlin and Jillian O'Connor; his son, Aaron Zev Katz of Salem and his long-time companion, Sarah Blacker; two sisters, Rosalind Levine and Sandra Katz both of Worcester.
Mel grew up in New Jersey, son of Shirley and Louis Katz. He graduated from UMASS Amherst, moving to Worcester with Harriett in 1969 and has lived in Paxton for the past 16 years. Mel began his over forty year career in real estate in 1970, and continued until his passing, along with opening a new business 5 years ago, Tat-Nooks in Tatnuck Square.
He delighted in connecting with customers in search of antique treasures. All who knew and adored Mel, speak of his warmth, kindness of heart and ever-lasting sense of humor.
A GRAVESIDE FUNERAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD AT 11 A.M. ON SUNDAY, APRIL 8, AT B'NAI BRITH CEMETERY ON ST. JOHN'S ROAD IN WORCESTER UNDER THE DIRECTION OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME OF HOLDEN.
Memorial Observance will be held through Sunday evening, April 8, at his residence with a Minyan Service at 6 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
