HOLDEN/WORCESTER – Marjorie M. (Davis) Truesdell Grant, of Homestead Hall in Worcester, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. She was 93 years old.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Bradford F. Truesdell, who died in 1967; her second husband, Gordon R. Grant, who died in 2004; and two sons and a grandson who died in infancy. She is survived by four children, Margaret D. Javens of East Palestine, Ohio, Martha J. Wolfe of Holden, John E. Truesdell and his wife Joan Truesdell of Westboro and Philip A. Grant, Jr. and his wife Martha Grant of Holden, a sister, Barbara Webster of North Carolina and two nieces and their families.

Mrs. Grant was born on May 29, 1915 in Dorchester, Massachusetts, daughter of Walter E. and Mildred (Gallagher) Davis. After her mother died of tuberculosis in 1922, Marjorie and her sister were sent to live with relatives in Bernardston, Massachusetts and Rochester, New York. She married Bradford Truesdell of Bernardston in 1942 prior to his deployment overseas and subsequent internment in a POW camp in Germany. Upon his return at the end of the war, they settled in Holden where she lived until 2005 when she moved to Worcester. She was an avid reader and birdwatcher, and after her retirement from R.E. Chapman Company, enjoyed traveling the back roads of New England and elsewhere, bowling with her friends, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a good card game in the evening. She was a member of the Oakdale United Methodist Church where she held several offices over the years, served on the board of the Holden Council on Aging and with her husband, Gordon, delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. Always supportive of her family's endeavors, she was a founding director of the White Oak Conservation Society in Holden, served as its secretary for several years and granted an easement over her Dinosaur Rock woodlot for the White Oak Trail.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 30th in the Oakdale United Methodist Church, West Boylston. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Center Cemetery, Bernardston.
