Biography
WORCESTER - Matthew M. Chasse, 40, of Worcester, died Thursday, December 29, 2011.
Matthew was born in Worcester, the son of John and Maria (Kelley) Chasse of Rutland. He graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1989 and Becker College in 2001. He was a sprinkler fitter for Arden Engineering Constructors of Pawtucket, RI, and was a member of the local 669 sprinkler fitter union.
Besides his parents, Matthew is survived by his girlfriend with whom he lived, Elizabeth O’Connell; his sons, Patrick Chasse and Christopher Chasse of Lebanon, CT; his sister, Lisa (Chasse) Gigliotti and her husband Jeff of Rutland; a niece and a nephew; his grandmother, Mary Bourke of Worcester; uncles, aunts, cousins, and a special friend, Lily.
Matthew was a proud father, a compassionate son, a loving brother and friend. He will be remembered by his unassuming personality and quick wit. Matthew was an exceptional athlete. In his senior year at Wachusett, he was a tri-captain for the Varsity soccer team and was named MVP. He was recognized as an All City and All State soccer player. He was also co-captain of his basketball team his senior year at Wachusett. Most recently he was inducted into the Becker College’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008 for his accomplishments in collegiate soccer, where he was recognized as an All-Northeast Regional Junior College and New England Colonial States Athletic All Star soccer player.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 4, from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Christ The King Church, 1052 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery, Rutland. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Britney Gengel’s Poorest of the Poor Fund, Inc., P.O. Box 355, Rutland, MA 01543.
