HOLDEN – Chester "Chip" Mason Marshall, of Malden Street, succumbed to cancer on Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at the age of 81.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gayle C. (Browning) Marshall; a son, Glen P. Marshall and his wife Anita of Holden; two daughters, Faith M. Keskula and her husband Rob of Holden and Abbey M. Marshall and her companion Paul Daugherty of Glen Rose, Texas; and two granddaughters, Anna Keskula of Northampton and Laura Keskula of Oakham. He was a 1946 graduate from Holden High School and attended the University of Maine.
Chip was born in Bangor, Maine, the son of Leon O. and Marjorie E. (Strout) Marshall, and lived most of his life in Holden. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps at the end of World War II and the U.S. Army Airborne Division during the Korean conflict. He was a self-employed carpenter and was also an owner and operator, along with his wife, of Mapledale Horse Stables in Holden. He was a pilot of his own J3 Piper Cub airplane and also had his own private FAA approved grass airstrip at their farm.
Chip served on the Holden Board of Assessors for 15 years and was a driver for the Holden Council on Aging Meals on Wheels Program.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, February 12th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Funeral services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VNA Rose Monahan Home, Development Office, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester, MA 01608; or to a charity of one's choice.
