HOLDEN – Maryann E. (Ricci) Novia, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2013 at UMass Memorial Healthcare, Lake Ave., with her family by her side. She was born in Boston, the daughter of Italian immigrants, Ralph P. and Antoinette (Moretti) Ricci.
Maryann was raised in Worcester and graduated from Commerce High School. She moved to Holden in 1969. She was a cashier at Shaw’s in Worcester for over 20 years. She loved vacationing at the beach, ballroom dancing, swimming in her pool and ceramics. She was understanding and supportive and welcomed everyone into her home. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Her beloved husband, Robert L. Novia, died in 1992. She leaves her children, James Halsdorff and his wife Kimberly of Holden, David M. Halsdorff and his wife Christine of Rutland, Louis R. Novia and his wife Jean of Leicester, Jean M. Halsdorff of Worcester, Debora A. Malo and her husband Kenneth of Holden and Robin L. Rogers and her husband Frederick of Brookfield; her sister, Constance Montague of Worcester; twelve grandchildren and predeceased by her grandson, Joshua; several great-grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters and her brother.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Maryann at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 31, in St. George Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. Burial will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 10 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
