HOLDEN – Mary M. (Massalski) Barry, 92, of 29 Hilltop Avenue in the Jefferson section of Holden, died Friday, May 6, 2005, in the Hospice Residence in Worcester after an illness.
Her husband of 48 years, Michael H. Barry, died in 1979. She leaves two daughters, Phyllis E. Underwood wife of the late Leon Underwood of Grimesland, North Carolina, and Barbara M. Lovely and her husband Richard F. of Jefferson; six grandchildren, Lisa Maden of Ackworth, Georgia, Sharon Taubert, Michael Lovely and Richard Lovely of Jefferson, Barry Underwood of Palmer, and Brian Underwood of North Carolina; 17 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; many nephews & nieces. Three brothers, Anthony, Joseph and Felix Massalski, predeceased her. She was born in Clinton, daughter of Andolph and Stephanie (Urganlanic) Massalski, graduated from Clinton High School and lived in Jefferson for the last 60 years.
Mrs. Barry was a secretary for eight years at Harrington Richardson in Gardner, retiring in 1976. Previously she was a secretary for 25 years at David Clark Company in Worcester. With her husband, she was former owner of the Hilltop Club and a local lunch cart in Jefferson. She was a member and sang in the choir at St. Mary’s Church. She enjoyed writing music and played the piano, organ and guitar, and was an accomplished seamstress.
The funeral for Mrs. Barry will be held on Tuesday, May 10, from the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, 1325 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 9, in the funeral home.
