Holden - Mary E. Loftus of Holden, previously of Wells, Maine, died February 15, 2024 at St. Francis Rehabilitation and Nursing center of Worcester, after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Mary was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late Richard J. and Elizabeth M. (O'Connor) Loftus. Mary graduated from Venerini Academy in 1965 and then went on to attend Quinsigamond College with a degree in Nursing.
Mary spent much of her life as a loving and caring Registered Nurse at UMass Memorial Hospital. All who knew Mary, knew her kind and gentle soul and funny sense of humor. After her extensive career as an RN, she then retired to be in her happy place, Up Maine. Maine, the way life should be. Where she enjoyed spending time at the beach, drinks at The Cove, Mike's Clam Shack, quick trips to Reny's and Congdon's donuts. She also adored taking walks with her golden retrievers and listening to the birds.
Mary was the eldest of four children. She leaves behind a brother Richard T. Loftus, and wife Robin of Rutland; sister Marguerite (Meg) Brueggemann and husband Gary of Holden, and was predeceased by her brother John (Jack) M. Loftus in May 2016 and close friend Marjorie I. Thomas in January 2022. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews to which she is lovingly called "Auntie"; Jennifer, Kathlynn (Katie), Shelley, Melissa, Erin and Tyson and John, along with their spouses and many great nieces and nephews.
Mary was a loving presence in our lives and will be sorely missed.
