SPENCER – Mary “Winnie” (Haggerty) Pepe, 78, of 195 Main Street, passed away on Friday, March 30, 2012 at Saint Vincent Hospital.
She leaves her husband of 55 years, Tony Pepe, Jr.; two sons, Anthony D. Pepe, his wife Michelle and their children, Suzanne and Kathryn, all of Spencer and John M. Pepe, his wife Kirsten and their son, Jonathan, all of Savannah, TX; two brothers, John Haggerty of West Virginia and James Haggerty of Merritt Island, FL; nieces, Sharyn Rock and Kathy Haggerty and nephews, John and Paul Haggerty. Her beloved daughter, Jane Ann Pia Pepe, died in 1965. A sister, Jane Lofflin of Merritt Island, FL predeceased her.
Winnie was born on June 8, 1933 in New Bedford, daughter of Jeremiah and Mary (McAvoy) Haggerty. She was raised in Providence, lived for 10 years in Paxton, 14 years in Worcester and 12 years in Charlton before moving to Spencer in 2010. Winnie graduated from St. Xavier’s Academy in Providence, earned a paralegal degree from Clark University and worked for New England Telephone. While living in Paxton she owned and operated “Something Extra”, a high end clothing and accessories store located on Rte.146 in Sutton.
She was a member of St. Columba Church in Paxton and Mary Queen of the Rosary in Spencer. Winnie will be most remembered for her devotion to her grandchildren.
A funeral Mass celebrating Winnie’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, in St. Columba Church, 18 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Burial will be private at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston, Rhode Island. The family requests donations in Winnie’s memory to St. Columba Church, 10 Richards Avenue, Paxton, MA 01612. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
