Mary Elizabeth (Golden) Mackenzie

June 30, 1927 — September 20, 2012

STERLING – Mary Elizabeth (Golden) MacKenzie, 85, passed peacefully under the loving care of her family and the staff at Oakdale Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center on Thursday, September 20, 2012. Mary was born in Jamaica Plain the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Schneekloth) Golden and had lived in Sterling for over 45years.

She is survived by her husband of 61years, Roderick J. MacKenzie Jr.; five daughters, Sister Carol A. MacKenzie of the Daughters of the Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Littleton, New Hampshire, Janet L. Burzenski and her husband Ron of Boylston, Diana M. Kaczmarek and her husband Gary of Jefferson, Lorraine MacKenzie of Rochester, NH and Christine Lukasevicz and her husband Ron of Grafton; a son, Kenneth MacKenzie predeceased her in 1956. Mary is also survived by a brother, John Golden of Woburn; two sisters, Joan Tutone of Spring Hill, Florida and Dorothy Slowe of Roslindale; her grandchildren, Travis, Brian, Andrew, David, Jeffrey, Alanna, Nicholas and Samantha; a great-grandson David; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary graduated from Jamaica Plain High School and attended the College of Practical Art in Boston. She worked for Colonial Press in Clinton and Skinner’s Auction Gallery formerly in Bolton. She enjoyed being a stay at home mom and was devoted to her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved the Nubble Light House and visiting Cape Neddick in Maine. Mary was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Church in Sterling. She loved collecting early American antiques, gardening and painting.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 from 9:30 to 11 a.m., in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, unrestricted memorial contributions may be made to The Daughters of the Charity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 226 Grove Street, Littleton, NH 03561 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Baystate Chapter, 60 Walnut Street, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.
