Mary H. Eaton

February 23, 1924 — September 3, 2015

HOLDEN - Mary (Henrickson) Eaton, 91, of Holden, died early on the morning of Thursday, September 3, 2015 at Christopher House of Worcester, after a long period of severe decline.

The daughter of Fritz and Sofi Henrickson, Mary was born at home on February 23, 1924. She attended Rice School, graduated with honors from Holden High School in 1942, and until just a few years ago still met her school friends for a monthly breakfast get-together.

Mary worked briefly at Norton Company, then enlisted in the Coast Guard and served in Miami, Florida and Norfolk, VA during WWII. She married David W. Eaton of Worcester at First Congregational Church in Holden on June 7, 1946. He predeceased her in 2006.

Mary is survived by her, daughter, Rev. Barbara Eaton Molfese (and John) of Lafayette, CO; son, Dr. Roger D. Eaton (and Kate) of Haarlem, The Netherlands; granddaughter, Leah Clark of Boulder, CO (and Spencer); grandsons, Arthur Eaton of Haarlem, The Netherlands and Christopher Eaton of Holden; her sister, Mrs. Anna Erickson; and nephew, Charles Erickson of Holden; niece, Vera Backstrom of Naches, WA (and Dotty); and nephew, Richard Backstrom of Emigrant, MT.

Mary lived most of her life in Holden, but also briefly in Patchogue, NY, Thomaston, CT, Windsor, VT and Plainville, MA before returning to Holden for good in 1972. She worked at Norton Co., Worcester Polytech, Sharfman’s Jewelers and after retirement she worked part-time at Wachusett Family Practice. Mary loved the outdoors, nature, the family farm on Chapin Road, wildflowers, wild birds and her garden. She loved the company of her grandchildren and they loved to be with her.

Mary was a long-time former member of First Congregational Church. More recently, she and Dave were active members of Chaffin Congregational Church, where she served as a deacon. She remained close to her large extended family throughout her lifetime and deeply missed the loved ones who passed on before her. We know they are reunited now, together again and at peace.

A family service was held for Mary at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
