RUTLAND – MaryAnn (Earley) Persson, 71, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2017 under the loving care of her family and the staff at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester. Born and raised in Worcester, MaryAnn was the daughter of the late Joseph and Michaelina (Izzie) Earley and lived the last 21 years of her life in Rutland.
MaryAnn graduated from North High School and later from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing, both in Worcester. On May 6, 1967, MaryAnn married the love of her life, William G. Persson at Immaculate Conception Church in Worcester where they met several years earlier at CYC. They raised their two sons at the Indian Lake section of Worcester before moving to Rutland in 1996.
She spent 26 years of her professional career as a registered nurse caring for patients at St. Vincent Hospital, and the last four years at Fallon Clinic in the Cardiac Care Department. After retiring as a nurse, MaryAnn continued her mission of compassionate care by volunteering her time and experience at the Worcester Visiting Nurse Association and most recently the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence. It has been said that “When you’re a nurse you know that every day you will touch a life or a life will touch you.” MaryAnn was always there for her patients and touched their lives in meaningful and unforgettable ways. She was truly altruistic and never measured her accomplishments by what she attained, but by what she was able to give.
MaryAnn's life was centered on family and faith. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Rutland and was a co-founder of the Worcester County Scleroderma Support Group. Despite her physical challenges, she amazingly balanced her family life and her passion as a caregiver. First and foremost, MaryAnn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved her family and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. She will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family and as an exceptional nurse.
She will be affectionately missed and remembered by her husband of 49 years, William G. Persson; her two sons, Christopher C. Persson and his wife, Kimberly of Stoddard, NH and Keith W. Persson of Rutland; two brothers, William “Bud” Earley of Worcester and Joseph Earley of Auburn; four grandchildren, Nick, Luke, Ana and William Persson; nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her sister, Patricia Queeney.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with MaryAnn’s family from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday, February 15, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Thursday, February 16, at St. Patrick’s Church, 258 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland.
