Mary C. Caiafo

February 9, 1927 — November 8, 2013

HOLDEN – Mary C. Caiafo, 86, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013 at Notre Dame Long Term Care in Worcester after a long period of declining health. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Michael and Louisa (Caola) Caiafo and graduated from St. Edmund High School in Brooklyn, NY.

She is survived by two nephews, Dr. Robert M. Giasi and his wife Mary Ellen of Holden and Michael J. Giasi, Sr. of Brooklyn, NY; and many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, James, Louis, Anthony and Ralph Caiafo; a sister, Jennie Giasi and a grandnephew, Michael J. Giasi, Jr.

Mary was an executive secretary for E.B.A.C.O. Services Inc. and its successor companies in New York City for many years before retiring. She was a former member of St. Edmund’s Church in Brooklyn, NY and belonged to its Canterbury Women and Alter Rosary Society. As a devout Catholic Mary lived a life characterized by love and service to God, family and friends. In the words of her grandnieces and grandnephews: “Everyone should have an Aunt Mary”.

Funeral services for Mary will be held on Friday, November 29 with an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester. A private committal service was held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Notre Dame Long Term Care Center, 559 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605 or Saint Johns Food Pantry 44 Temple Street, Worcester, MA 01604. Arrangements are under the care of the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
