RUTLAND-Mary L. (Blanchard) Kalloch, 76, of Rutland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 with her husband, Jim; son, Dave; daughters, Susan, Judith and her husband, David; and her dear family friend, Jane, at her side. They appreciated the compassionate staff at the UMass Memorial Hospital, University campus I.C.U.
Mary was born in New Haven, CT and raised in North Haven, CT. As a child, she was a welcoming greeter at the Center Church in New Haven. She always loved and enjoyed anything musical, and in her early years played the piano, organ, violin, viola and the cello at various times. She also loved to sing, and participated with many musical groups, including singing with the Connecticut High School All State Chorus, playing an instrument with the Johnson Symphony Orchestra of New Haven, and at Southern Connecticut University. She also toured with the singing group of the Defiance College of Ohio. She later joined an acappella group while living in Framingham. In recent years, Mary enjoyed attending concerts. Mary possessed an inborn gift of insightful conversation, often striking one up with total strangers. Fondly known as the “purple lady” by many because of her affinity of that color, Mary truly loved being around people, and had been an active member of the First Congregational Church of Rutland, where at one time she sang in the choir She also spent many hours volunteering. A wonderful cook who enjoyed many of her own creations, Mary also treasured her time traveling, especially meeting with extended family members in Maine.
Besides her husband and children, Mary leaves her adoring four grandchildren, Samantha, Kevin, Kelsey, and Reed; sister, Susan; her daughter-in-law, Felecia; and close family members, Don and Wendy, as well as a nephew, Mo.
Following cremation, a public memorial service celebrating Mary’s life will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 11 AM in the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street, Rutland. Burial will be private in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers may be sent to the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street, P. O.
