WORCESTER – Martha L. (Fohs) Bowie, 92, of 70 Briarwood Circle and a longtime resident of Stratford, Connecticut, died Sunday, April 18, 2004, in UMass Memorial Medical Center-Memorial Campus.
Her husband of 24 years, Robert B. Bowie, died in 1965. She leaves a daughter, Carol Bowie Blanchard of Rutland; three grandchildren, Gayle B. Ryan and her husband Timothy J. Ryan of Alexandria, Virginia, Barbara Blanchard and Daniel E. Blanchard, both of Boston; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin B. and Ansley W. Ryan both of Alexandria, Virginia. She was born in the Bronx, New York, daughter of John F. and Hermina (Moer) Fohs Jr.
Martha was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the First Congregational Church of Stratford, Connecticut. Martha’s greatest joy was spending time with her family and attending social gatherings of all kinds. She was an active volunteer at the Briarwood Retirement Community and enjoyed painting, reading, bridge, crossword puzzles.
Martha’s funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Mount Grove Cemetery, 1046 Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport, Connecticut. A calling hour will be from 9 to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2004, in the funeral home.
