BROOKFIELD – Mark V. Armstrong, 56, of 5 Buckboard Pass, died Friday, July 7, 2006, in V.A. Boston Healthcare Hospital, after a brief illness.
His wife of 11 years, Brenda R. (Bates) Armstrong, died in 2004. He leaves two sons, Chad Armstrong of Fayettville, North Carolina and Jacob Armstrong of Southbridge; a daughter, Jennifer Lee of Hyannis; his mother, Celia Oliver of Jefferson; his step-father, Edward L. Crawford of Princeton; two sisters, Rae McAuliffe of Holden and Lynn D. Howard of Jaffrey, New Hampshire; four grandchildren; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was born in Worcester, son of the late John X. Armstrong, and lived in Princeton for 25 years before moving to Brookfield 10 years ago. He was a 1968 graduate of Wachusett Regional High School and attended the Connecticut School of Airline Personnel.
Mark was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War where as private first class he was awarded the National defense service medal, Vietnam service medal with a bronze star, combat metal with device, combat action ribbon, rifle expert badge and purple heart. He worked for the Town of Southbridge Department of Public Works for many years. Previously he worked for the New York Port Authority.
The funeral Mass for Mark will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. There are no calling hours. Please omit flowers. Memorial donations in Mark’s memory made be made to the Massachusetts Veterans Shelter, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01609. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
