STERLING/LEOMINSTER – Mark W. Montagna, 50, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at HealthAlliance Leominster Hospital after being defeated by mental illness. He was born in Westfield, the son of Alfred P. and Helen E. (Carney) Montagna and had lived in Sterling before moving to Leominster over 15 years ago. Mark graduated from Wachusett Regional High School then in 1988 earned his bachelor’s degree of Science, Mechanical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He worked at several companies including Fourstar Connections, Inc. in Hudson, Lucent Technologies in Westford and Martin Marietta, the former General Electric Aerospace in Burlington. Mark was an avid golfer, enjoyed trips to the casino and was a member of the Wachusett Country Club. He is survived by two brothers, Paul A. Montagna and his wife, Andra of Conway, NC and John P. Montagna of Sterling; two nieces, Kaitlyn Montagna and Elizabeth Paradise; a nephew, Michael Montagna; a grandnephew, Seth; and several cousins. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, March 28, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Mark’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 29, from the funeral home with a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the City of Leominster, Office of Emergency Management, 37 Carter Street, Leominster, MA 01453.
