STERLING – Marion L. (Taylor) Woodsmall, 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 16, 2018 at Sterling Village. She was the wife of the late retired Sterling Fire Chief, John “Jack” R. Woodsmall. Marion was born in Holden, the daughter of Wilfred O. and May B. (Williams) Taylor.Marion grew up in Sterling, graduating from Leominster High School. In 1946, when her beloved Jack returned from his service with the Army of the Occupation in Europe, their story continued. They were married on December 6, 1947, and Marion and Jack were together for 67 years before he passed in 2015. Marion worked at the Sterling Town Hall. She served as the Sterling Town Clerk, Tax Collector and the Secretary to the Board of Selectman, all in the town that she loved.She was a member of the Chocksett Club, the Monoosnock Country Club, the Sterling Grange and was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a member of the First Church in Sterling. She enjoyed golf, traveling and spending time with her family at home. Marion was loved by all who knew her.Marion is survived by her four children, Susan B. Laakso-LeBlanc and her husband, Steven LeBlanc of Ashburnham, John R. Woodsmall, Jr. and his wife, Maura of Sterling, Nancy J. Castagna and her husband, Anthony of Sterling and Brenda L. Rotti and her husband, Todd of Sterling; and her brother, Raymond Taylor of Holyoke. She also leaves her nine grandchildren, Davin and Justin Laakso, John, Jason and Jeremy Woodsmall, Geno and Joseph Castagna and Leah and Hannah Rotti; her 12 great grandchildren, Senja and Kainen Laakso, Connor, Jason Jr. “JJ”, Emily, Ryan, Jack, Grace, Samuel, Benjamin and twins, Vivian and Violet Woodsmall; as well as several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Marion’s family on Thursday, July 19 from 4 to 6 pm at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Her funeral will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, July 20 at the First Church in Sterling, 6 Meetinghouse Hill Road. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sterling.
