RUTLAND - Marion E. (Farrell) Bocian, 88, of Highland Park Road, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012 in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester with her family by her side. Her husband, Stephen J. Bocian, died in 2002. Her first husband, Ellsworth O. Govalet, died in 1968.
Marion was born on December 7, 1923 in Holden, daughter of William P. and Anna (Cronin) Farrell. She grew up in Leicester and other surrounding towns before moving to Rutland in 1959. She was a graduate of Becker Junior College in Worcester. Marion worked many years at Rutland Heights Hospital retiring in 1984 as a Principal Clerk.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Rutland. She was an active member of the church’s Bereavement Committee, the Rutland Historical Society and the Friends of the Rutland Council on Aging. She enjoyed and participated in the book club, knitting club and scrapbooking. She was known and loved for her gentle nature and contagious smile.
Marion is survived by her son, Gordon E. Govalet and his wife Annette of North Kingstown, RI; a daughter, Marleen A. Marino of Berlin; three step-sons, Stephen J. Bocian and his wife Barbara of Rutland, Donald R. Bocian and his wife Patricia of Holden and Msgr. Ronald C. Bocian of Pennsylvania; a brother, John Farrell of Auburn; a sister, Anna Mae Berthiaume of Spencer; three grandchildren, Franco Capuano, Nicole Sears and her husband Kevin and Leslie Govalet; four step-grandchildren, Kristine, Megan, Stephenie and Donna; a great-grandson, Andrew Sears; and many nephews and nieces. Two brothers, William Farrell and Donald Farrell, predeceased her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 11, in St. Patrick's Church, 258 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. Interment will follow in Rural Cemetery, Main Street (Rte. 122A), Rutland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Friends of the Rutland Council on Aging, 250 Main Street, Rutland, MA 01543. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
