WORCESTER – Marion A. Cawley, 96, of Briarwood Circle, died Monday, August 2, 2004, in Knollwood Nursing Center after an illness.
She leaves a niece, Mary Joe Russell of Norway, Maine; and a good friend, Patricia White of Holden. Her sister, Mary Louise Cawley, who died in 1978, was the Principal of Rice Elementary School in Holden for many years. She was born in St. George, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Frederick M. and Josephine E. (Parks) Cawley, and came to Worcester with her mother in 1928.
Miss Cawley was a registered nurse and worked at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston for 36 years, retiring in 1974. She graduated in 1931 from Chelsea Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and in 1952 from Simmons College in Boston. She was a member of All Saint’s and St. John’s Episcopal Churches both in Worcester. She was a member of the Army Nurse Corp. and served in England during World War II.
A memorial service for Miss Cawley will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 6, in St. John’s Episcopal Church, 166 Holden Street, Worcester. Burial will be private in Grove Cemetery, 1290 Main Street, Holden. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Briarwood Residents Assistance Fund, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, MA 01606. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
