Mario F. Finocchio

October 11, 1938 — February 26, 2017

HOLDEN – Mario Finocchio passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 26, 2017 after an illness. Born and raised in Concord, the son of Italian immigrants, the late Sabatino and Linda (Navelli) Finocchio and attended Concord High School. After high school, Mario served in the U.S. Navy where he was a journalist. After his Navy years, he received his Associate Arts Degree with honors from Massachusetts Bay Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Broadcasting in 1967 from Boston University School of Public Communications. Mario’s career included a commercial writer/producer and news writer for Channels 56, 4 and 27 between 1966 – 1983. In 1983 he founded AdVentions, Inc., an advertising firm. During his time with AdVentions, he was most notably known for the Nissen Bread commercials featuring the former Boston Red Sox “splendid splinter”, Ted Williams and former New York Yankees catcher, Yogi Berra. He received several accommodations and recognition for his work throughout his career. Mario was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Shirley M. (Neal) Finocchio; son, Daniel S. Finocchio; and a brother, Bruno Finocchio. He is survived by his two children, Anthony Finocchio and his wife, Heather Cantwell of Boston/Falmouth, and his daughter, Jessica Massery, her husband, Daniel of Holden; his grandsons, Andrew Hotaling and Thomas Massery, of whom he lived with since 2014. He is also survived by his sisters, Tilda Landrigan of Bedford and Louisa Roberts of Englewood, FL along with many nieces and nephews. Mario was an avid reader and a history buff. He had a sense of humor and always said, “If I don’t like you, I wouldn’t joke with you.” He adored his family and friends and always had a smile and a good story ready whenever he saw them. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Friday, March 10, at St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton St., Jefferson. Following the Mass, friends and family will be invited to a Celebration of Life luncheon to come and share their memories and stories about Mario. Interment with military honors will take place at St Mary’s Cemetery in Holden in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mario’s name to the Daniel S.
