WEST BOYLSTON - Marino Anthony Morazzini, 87, died of cancer February 17, 2014 in the comfort of his own home, and in the presence of his two nieces and his beloved cat, Bella.
Except for his service in the U.S. Navy during WWII, Marino lived his entire life in West Boylston, attending school, working at the family fruit stand, and for most of his career, working for West Boylston's Municipal Light Plant. The fruit stand was located on West Boylston Street, thriving for decades, run by his mother, Cesira and father, Marino Sr. and Marino would relieve them each evening after his day ended at the electric company. "The stand" was an iconic West Boylston business and a meeting place for vegetable and fruit buying and wonderful conversation and meals, as Cesira and Marino cooked Italian dishes in the tiny shed in the fruit stand. Marino loved the stand but loved his job at the electric company more. He often said, "I couldn't wait for Monday morning so I could get back to work. I loved my job." Thus, for many years he walked the driveways and yards of West Boylston homes to read the electric meters. This gave him the opportunity to make hundreds of friends and he had regular stops where he was invited for coffee and conversation. A devoted son, he cared for his parents as they aged in the home they shared, and after his father and mother passed, Marino continued the family tradition of an annual vegetable garden right through this past summer.
Marino was predeceased by his parents, Cesira (Gambaccini) and Marino Morazzini and his sisters, Sarah Ann Richards and Hilda Natola. Marino is survived by his nieces, Dr. Debbie R. Cooper and her husband, William G. Cooper and Nancy Richards-Stower, her husband, Rev. Richard M. Stower and their son, Jonathan D. Stower.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, at Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Church Street, West Boylston. Friends are invited to honor Marino's memory with donations to "Town of West Boylston Bandstand Committee," or the "West Boylston Council on Aging," both at 127 Hartwell Street, West Boylston, MA 01583. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is assisting the family with arrangements.
