HOLDEN - Marilyn J. (Sullivan) Dowd, 81, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at UMass Memorial Hospital. Born and raised in Worcester, Marilyn was the daughter of Francis and Helena (Dacey) Sullivan, and lived 38 years in Holden where she raised her family with her husband, Bernie.

For 36 years, Marilyn was happily married to Bernard F. Dowd who passed away in 1991. She is survived by her children, Patrick M. Dowd and his wife, Nancy of Holden, Catherine A. Hayes and her husband, James of Brighton, Michigan and her daughter, Lynne M. Druffner and her husband, Martin of Hopkinton; 7 grandchildren, Shane and Ashlyn Dowd, Sarah, Jimmy and Tyler Hayes, Abigail and Olivia Druffner; and nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her brother, Eugene Francis Sullivan.

Marilyn graduated from North High School in Worcester and attended Anna Maria College in Paxton. She was the administrative coordinator at Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing in Worcester where she worked for many years. She later worked at Favorite Nurses in Worcester, now Favorite Healthcare Staffing, as their staffing coordinator. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Jefferson.

She loved vacationing in the summer with her family at West Dennis on Cape Cod. She also enjoyed her vacations in Florida and her roads trips to visit her daughter and family in Michigan. Marilyn was extremely social and rarely met a stranger she didn't soon call a friend. She naturally enjoyed the company of others and will be remembered for her kind and giving nature. Marilyn was a voracious reader and was known to read several novels in any given week. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be lovingly missed by those who were blessed to have known her.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with Marilyn's family from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, at St. Mary's Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Following Mass, Marilyn will be laid to rest next to her husband at Mooreland Cemetery in Paxton.
