RUTLAND / LAS VEGAS, NV - Marilyn E. Rogan, 66, beloved wife of Earnest Smith, Jr., passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family on Friday, March 12, 2021. Born in Worcester and raised in Boylston, she was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Paulson) Rogan.
Marilyn graduated from Tahanto Regional High School and went on to further her education at Bridgewater State College where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Health and Physical Education. She taught special education and physical education at the Deveroux School for many years before moving to Las Vegas, NV where she began a new career in law enforcement. Marilyn entered the police academy and served with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Captain Rogan retired in 2010 after 28 years of dedicated service. She was a proud member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) as well as the National Jail Association.
She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her husband of 30 years, Earnest; her two daughters, Sara Ortiz and Alayna Smith, both of Rutland; a step-son, Frank Smith; four step-daughters, Jeni Jolley and her husband, Mark, Beth Kikkert and her husband, Jon, Noke Duangsima and her husband, Noi all of Las Vegas, and Lisa Waters and her husband, Marlon of Raleigh, NC; a brother, John Paul Rogan and his wife, Laurie of ND; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son, Adam R. Ulrey and a step-son, Anthony Smith.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the family from 12 to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 20 in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A memorial service honoring her life will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Appropriate Covid-19 protocol will be observed including the use of face masks and social distancing.
