Marilyn A. (Kupcinskas) Berg

March 2, 1953 — March 6, 2015

LANCASTER – Marilyn A. (Kupcinskas) Berg, 62, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 6, 2015, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Worcester, a daughter of the late Stanley and Aldona (Navikas) Kupcinskas.

Marilyn possessed a love for music which led her to attend and graduate from Doherty High School where she played cello in the orchestra. She became proficient in the cello and later, the piano and saxophone. She earned a degree in music education from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. Marilyn returned to Worcester and worked in the loan department of the former Worcester County National Bank. Through a mutual friend’s introduction, Marilyn met her future husband, Peter. They went on to get married, begin a family, and settled in Lancaster in 1982. Marilyn stayed at home to raise the children for several years and later returned to the workplace as an elementary school tutor in Lancaster for over 25 years. She also gave music lessons to many piano students at home. Music remained ever present in Marilyn’s life, whether playing with the Atlantic Union College Orchestra, with Harry Levinson during Concert in the Park in Worcester, at local musicals performed at the Theater at the Mount, or performing with her husband and daughter in the Sterling band. She was also a member of her own string quartet, The Cirrus Quartet, which played at local weddings and functions. Marilyn’s love of boating began after her first date with Peter, when he took her fishing on his 10’ jon boat. They both enjoyed being on the water and together were active members of the Clinton Flotilla of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. She also remained active as a troop leader with the Lancaster Girl Scouts. She was an avid fan of both the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.

Marilyn will be forever remembered by her beloved husband of 36 years, Peter F. Berg; her daughter, Melanie Fortier of Beverly; her son, Jonathan Berg and his wife, Stephanie CM-Berg of Pepperell and their daughter, Skylar, who has brought so much joy to Marilyn; her three sisters, Diane Rigby and her husband, Gerry of Falmouth, Kathleen Kupcinskas Hart and her husband, Kristopher Hart of Lancaster and Patricia Longvall of Paxton; her brother, Michael Kupcinskas and his wife, Elizabeth of Ashburnham; several nieces, nephews, and many cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Marilyn’s family on Monday, March 9, from 4-7 p.m. at the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling.
