Biography

HOLDEN - Marilyn Joyce (Joseph) Rosen, 80, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 26, 2016 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester, just nine days before her birthday. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Ruth Frances (Barsky) and J. Bernard Joseph, living most of her adult life in Worcester. She had been living for the past year at Holden Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Mrs. Rosen graduated from Suitland High School, in Suitland, Maryland, as the second class to graduate the new school at the time. She attended 13 schools in three states prior to graduating high school, due to her parents constant moving around. Prior to getting married, Mrs. Rosen worked as a ballroom dance instructor at the Arthur Murray Dance Studios and as an office assistant for a team of 16 doctors for the federal government. Once married, she enjoyed being a stay at home mom, fulfilling her time volunteering at the former Fairlawn Hospital, carpooling her daughter and friends to dance classes or youth group meetings, and being the neighborhood "mom" to every kid in a quarter mile radius.

After Mrs. Rosen divorced, she would spent time doting on her grandson - traveling to Maine, Vermont, and anywhere they could find a museum to travel to. She loved to play cards (especially canasta and solitaire), knit (everything - and for EVERYONE!), doing crossword puzzles - especially Extreme Sudoku, play piano, color adult coloring books, read (sometimes several books a week!), and was a huge horror movie fan. For many years, Mrs. Rosen volunteered her time with her daughter on Saturday nights in Shrewsbury when the local Rotary Club would hold their weekly BINGO nights. She leaves her daughter, Cheryl Rosen of Worcester and her son, Scott Rosen of Worcester; her brother, Rodney Joseph and his wife, Pauline of Annapolis, Maryland; her brother, Brian Joseph and his wife, Joanne of Cape Coral, Florida; her grandson, Eric Rainville and his wife Jill of Shrewsbury; her great granddaughter Dakota Rainville of Shrewsbury; nieces,  nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her loving cats Precious, Butterscotch, Mittens and Tiger.  A graveside service honoring Mrs. Rosen's life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 31, at the Worcester B'nai Brith Cemetery, 55 Saint Johns Road, Worcester. Reception will follow at Congregation Shaarai Torah West, 835 Pleasant Street, Worcester.   Memorial observances for Marilyn will be on Wednesday, August 31, through Sunday, September 4; with the exception of Saturday, September 3; from 11AM to 8PM at the home of CHERYL ROSEN, Stratton Hill Park Apartments, 161 West Mountain Street, Adams Building, Unit 515, Worcester, MA 01606 (Parking is in the Visitors Lot A).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Greater New England Chapter. ARRANGEMENTS ARE UNDER THE CARE OF RICHARD PERLMAN OF MILES FUNERAL HOME, 1158 MAIN ST., HOLDEN.
