PRINCETON/WORCESTER – Marie S. (Steur) Kemp, 95, formerly of Princeton, died peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2009 in Knollwood Nursing Center, West Boylston.
Her husband of 42 years, Richard S. Kemp, Sr., died in 1985. She leaves her sons, Richard S. Kemp, Jr. of Fox River Grove, Illinois, Jeffrey W. Kemp and his wife Sue of Holden and Brian F. Kemp and his wife Ruth of Upton; four grandchildren Heather Goad, Hillary Kemp and Ethan Kemp all of Colorado and Addison Kemp of Holden; nieces and nephews. Two brothers, William and R. Walter Steur and a sister, Vera Kemp, predeceased her.
Mrs. Kemp was born on September 18, 1914 in Boston, a daughter of William and Maria E. (Selter) Steur. She lived in Princeton for 45 years before moving in 1989 to Briarwood in Worcester. She was the office manager for Guardian Life Insurance Co. of Worcester for 15 years, retiring in 1981. Previously, she was with the Paul Revere Life Insurance Co. Upon graduating from Commerce High School in Worcester, Mrs. Kemp studied art at the Worcester Art Museum. After retirement, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming an accomplished artist in oils and charcoal when she studied under the direction of Frank Bly. Marie continued to paint well into her 90's with her works displayed at several venues including the Wayside Inn in Sudbury. She was a member of the Princeton Arts Society, Paxton Women's Club and the First Baptist Church of Holden.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 18th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The funeral service for Mrs. Kemp will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 19th, in the First Baptist Church of Holden, 1216 Main Street. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Princeton.
