Biography
HOLDEN - Marie T. (Paquette) Bengtson, 81, of Jefferson, passed away
peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shrewsbury. Born and raised in Holden, Marie was the daughter of Marshall H. and Stasia E. (Dusak) Paquette, and lived here her entire life.
Her beloved husband of 24 years, Einar "Lenny" L. Bengtson died in 1977. She leaves her two daughters, Lisa M. Towle and her husband, Robert, and Amy E. Bengtson all of Jefferson; three grandchildren, Megan Miller and her husband, Jeff, Robert Towle and his wife, Alicia, and Jared Towle; nephews and nieces; and her adorable lap dog, "Homer". Besides her husband, Marie is predeceased by a brother, Russell Paquette and two sisters, Dolores Wisner and Virginia Johnson.
Marie attended Chaffins Elementary School and graduated from Holden High School in 1945. She later graduated from Salter's Secretarial School in Worcester and worked at Norton Co. in Worcester for several years prior to having children. After the untimely death of her husband, Lenny in 1977, Marie went back to work initially as a sales clerk at The Red Door in Holden followed by secretarial positions at Becker College, Anna Maria College, Wachusett Home Healthcare, the American Antiquarian Society, and Assumption College. Throughout the years she remained a presence doing payroll for her nephews' business, RJ. Paquette
She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Jefferson and the former Holden Hospital Auxiliary. Marie embraced both her daughters' activities and served as one of the first leaders of the Camp Fire Girls in Central Massachusetts. She loved being part of their lives and valued any and all time spent with them. She met life's challenges head on and was admired for her independence, resilience and love. She found joy in the simplest things and particularly enjoyed playing bingo, scrabble, sewing for her family and attending her grandchildren's activities. Her strong family values and tenacity will be remembered as her legacy by her daughters and grandchildren. Marie’s family would like to thank the Memory Care Unit of Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation for the caring support during Marie’s stay there.
