STERLING/FITCHBURG - Marie H. (Ferguson) Dupont, 89, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 25, 2023, under the loving care of her family and the compassionate staff at River Terrace Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Lancaster.
Born and raised in Newcastle (Miramichi), New Brunswick, Canada, Marie was the daughter of Severe and Mary (Babineau) Ferguson. Marie moved to the United States with her husband and first two children to Fitchburg, MA in 1954. She lived most of her life in Fitchburg before moving to Sterling, where she has lived with her daughter for the last 8 years.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by two sons, Francis J. Dupont and his wife, Pamela of Sterling, and Kenneth L. Dupont and his wife, Maria of Phillipston; a daughter, Ann Simons; a sister, Yvette Maillet of Canada; 22 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides her parents, Marie was predeceased by her son, Joseph Melanson, her sisters, Alma and Edith, and her brother Alex.
Most of Marie's life was spent as a homemaker, raising two families of her own, and a grandchild. She also worked many different jobs. In Canada as a sardine packer, and later as a seamstress and private nurse's aide.
Marie was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist churches in Fitchburg, Leominster, and most recently the Village Church in Lancaster. Marie was genuine and kind. She would do anything for her family or anyone that was in need. She was very talented. She loved to crochet. She liked making blankets (over 200) and countless hats for her family and friends. Marie enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, and performing solo original songs at church services. She took joy in baking. Marie's famous bread rolls were a staple at family gatherings.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Marie's family from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, October 2nd at Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Rd., Sterling, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery in Sterling. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Marie may be made to the Sterling Animal Shelter or the ADRA.
