Biography
WORCESTER - Marian (Weiner) Freeman, 93, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Jewish Healthcare Center in Worcester. Her husband, Bernard, predeceased her in 1975 and her partner of many years, Rocco predeceased her in 1995. Marian leaves her three sons, Kenneth Freeman and his wife, Randy of Kinnelon, NJ, Mark Freeman and his wife, Deborah of Worcester, and Robert Freeman and his wife, Felice of Delmar, NY; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; her brother, David; and her sisters, Doris and Gail. Her brother, Norman and her sister, Shirley predeceased her. She also leaves a large trail of nieces, nephews, and friends, including those who cared for her in recent years at Tatnuck Park and the Jewish Healthcare Center. Marian was born and raised in Warren, OH, daughter of the late Joseph and Dora (Riman) Weiner. At the age of 12, in 1934, she and her family moved to the Boston area, where she would attend middle school and high school, study at the Burdett School and eventually meet her husband Bernard, for whom she waited, when he went off to India during the Second World War. Theirs was an extraordinary love, and those who were there to witness it, her three sons especially, were fortunate to have had such exemplary models for their own lives. In 1956, Marian and her family moved to Levittown, NY, where they lived for a year, and then to East Meadow, NY, where they lived for nearly two decades. Following Bernard’s passing in 1975, Marian left East Meadow and moved to an apartment in Great Neck, NY, where she would have the opportunity to rebuild her life. At this time, she also re-entered the work world, serving both the Great Neck School District and the Oyster Bay School District, where she would assume the roles of senior stenographer and purchasing manager. After some 32 years in the home with husband and sons, her entry into the work-world marked a significant change in her life, and her remarkable record of achievement testifies well to her considerable intelligence, her organizational skill, and her ease with people. After her work years, Marian lived in an apartment in South Palm Beach, FL, and also kept an apartment in Worcester. Upon encountering some significant health challenges, she moved to Worcester, where she lived until her passing. Marian was a world traveler, loved art and architecture, good food and drink, and, while she was able, did as much as she could to honor the great gift of life with her family and friends. She also touched many people with her grace and charm, her wit, her passion for music, her excellence at trivia, and her own care for those who loved her and served her. Their memories will keep her spirit alive. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 6, in the Jewish Healthcare Center, 629 Salisbury St., Worcester, under the direction of Richard Perlman of Miles Funeral Home.
