Holden/Rochester, NY/ Wayne, NJ - Marian (Mandell) Cavuto, 94, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Notre Dame Long Term Care in Worcester. She was born in Rochester, NY, the daughter of Frank and Mary Reber Mandell and had lived in Rochester and Wayne, NJ before moving to Holden in 2008.
Marian was predeceased by her beloved husband of 66 years, Anthony M. Cavuto in 2015. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Kathleen C. Rentsch and her husband, Robert of Worcester; four grandchildren, Lisa Bub and her husband, Walter, Laurie Bilovesky and her husband, Steve, Jessica Rentsch and her husband, Matthew Brooks and Anthony Rentsch; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by her son, Michael F. Cavuto; as well as her brother, Frank "Skip" Mandell.
Marian graduated from Jefferson High School in Rochester with the class of 1943 and went immediately to work. When she moved to New Jersey, she worked as executive assistant to a vice president at Union Camp Corporation in Wayne, NJ for over 20 years, retring in 2000. Marian's life was centered around family and service to others. For many years she was devoted to fundraising and volunteering with the Park Ridge Auxiliary in Rochester of which she was past president. Even while living in Wayne, NJ, Marian and Anthony would make frequent trips to Rochester to continue their connections with family and childhood friends. She was an avid golfer and "Aunt Marian's" homemade sauce was a family favorite.
To know Marian was to be awestruck by the perseverance and grace she had shown since Anthony passed away in 2015. While her memories faded over time, she was present in all the ways that mattered most. This enabled her to have Easter brunch at UMass Amherst with her grandson, to participate in her granddaughter’s wedding, to stay in a hotel with other granddaughters for the wedding weekend, to tease her son- in-law about almost anything, and to enjoy a dish of macaroni on Sunday. Among many poignant moments, we will never forget how confidently she walked out of assisted living and into long term care on her own, head held high, not knowing what to expect or how to react. Her grace, perseverance and strength were the grit that the Greatest Generation has shown all of us over and over through the Depression, WW II and so many incredible changes in this last century. Her family was truly privileged to have a 94-year old mom/mother-in-law/grandmother/aunt/cousin/friend like Marian.
Marian’s family would like to extend deep appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers at Notre Dame Long Term Care who took such tender loving care of her and her family members over the past few months. Their love and compassion shone through everything they did, every day.
Burial services will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of calling hours or flowers, the family requests that family and friends spend time with a loved one who is elderly, alone, ill or in need of a friend. Time is a precious gift, please pay it forward. Memorial contributions may be made in Marian's name to Notre Dame Long Term Care at 559 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605.
