WORCESTER – Maria A. (DeBats) Schneider, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Saint Vincent Hospital, following a period of declining health. She was born in Antwerp, Belgium a daughter of the late Alphonse and Maria (Pot) DeBats.
Maria attended schools in Belgium. During World War II while working in the C.C.D. in Munich, Maria met Edward Schneider, a young Army soldier stationed there and soon they were married. Their early married years were spent in the United States and Germany, before returning to Massachusetts. They lived in New Bedford, Framingham and spent many years in Leicester before moving to Worcester. Maria worked as a claims representative for CNA Insurance for 30 years before retiring. She and Edward loved to travel and returned to Europe many times, including yearly trips to Spain during their retirement years.
She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 67 years, Edward and her daughter, Gwynn DelSignore and her husband, Louis of Princeton. She was predeceased by her sister, Matilda van de Pitte.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Maria’s family on Saturday, September 12, from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
