Marguerite W. (Williams) Maki

BARRE – Marguerite W. (Williams) Maki of Barre died on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at home after a short illness surrounded by her family. Born on June 20, 1934 in a house in Barre she was predeceased by her parents, Howard and Ramona Williams; her brother, Francisco Herrera; and her son, Tyson Linwood Maki, (twin).She is survived by her daughter Elicia (twin) and her husband, James Mcginn; her granddaughters, Johannah DeLaurie and her husband, Kevin, and Alexis Mcginn; two great grandchildren, Elijah and Abigail Contis; her sister-in-law, Phillis Herrera; nephews, Francisco and Rolando Herrera; niece, Ramona Demars and her family; sister-in-law and friend, Barbara Maki; and friend, Beverly Glass and husband, Clark and their son, Robert.“Margi” having a gentle heart and compassionate spirit devoted herself to social work. After graduating from the former Barre High School also attended Worcester College of Business and Science earning her degree in social work and business. In the year 1987, she was given the governor’s award for compassion. She was the driving force behind the creation of the Barre Senior Center and served as the director for several years after its opening.In her later years she devoted herself to family, cooking and caring for her home in Barre and finally fulfilling her promise to only leave there “feet first.”Mrs. Maki was a strong willed and fiercely independent woman and accordant to her expressed wished there will be no calling hours or services. She wished to be cremated. Interment details have yet to be established. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden is assisting the family with services.
