LEOMINSTER – Margery H. (Callaghan) Grady, 97, passed away on Saturday, October 15, peacefully in the loving care of her family and the compassionate staff at Life Care Center in Leominster. Born and raised in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Margery was the daughter of Jack and Delia (Hawkins) Callaghan. Her beloved husband of 41 years, Thomas W. Grady, died in 1987.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed by her three sons, Michael Grady and his wife, Beverly of Fort Mill, SC, William Grady and his wife, Yolanda of Fitchburg and John Grady and his wife, Ann-Marie of Sterling; a sister, Dorothy Dunn of North Carolina; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; nephews and nieces. Besides her husband and parents, Margery is predeceased by a sister, Mary Eckart, and three brothers, James, Patrick and Eugene Callaghan.
Margery graduated from Pittsfield High School and the Berkshire Business School. She worked as a secretary at General Electric in Pittsfield for several years. After marrying on October 5, 1946 at St. Mary the Morningstar Catholic Church in Pittsfield, Margery and Tom moved to Leominster where they raised their three sons.
Margery was a devoted Catholic and very proud of her Irish heritage. She was member of St. Leo’s Church in Leominster and the St. Jude League. Margery was an avid walker and could be found at Doyle Field or at the Mall at Whitney Field. She loved dogs, gardening, jazz music, Cape Cod and going out to dinner with her family and friends. Most of all, she loved her family.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, October 21st, at St. Leo’s Church, 128 Main St., Leominster. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Leominster where Margery will be laid to rest next to her husband, Thomas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Leo’s Church, 108 Main St., Leominster, MA 01453 (stleosparish.org/st-vincent-de-paul-society). Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center in Sterling is directing arrangements.
