Margaret E. (Wheeler) Valiton

GARDNER - Margaret E. Valiton, 96, of Gardner, died at home on Friday, July 4, 2014 with her daughter and son-in-law at her side. She was born to the late Mary Wheeler Thompson and Charles Howard Thompson. She was married to the late Kenneth R. Valiton and lived in Ashburnham for many years.

Margaret was a graduate of the Henry Heywood Hospital School of Nursing and served as a nurse at the same hospital for several years. She also served as school nurse at Oakmont Regional Jr.-Sr. High School in Ashburnham-Westminster. She enjoyed traveling the United States and Canada with her husband, as well as time spent building a home with her husband and living in St. Augustine FL.

She leaves her daughter, Jennifer (Jill) Fichtel and her husband, Mike of Hubbardston, her son, Kenneth R. Valiton, Jr. (Ray) and his wife, Lynn of Clyde Hill, WA and Mesa, AZ, her daughter, Elizabeth (Liz) Hollis of East Machias, ME, and a daughter, Patricia Valiton of San Diego, CA. In addition, she leaves 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She leaves a brother, James Thompson and his wife, Betty of NH and FL and several nieces and nephews. A great-granddaughter and her sisters, Gladys Bowers and Beatrice (Betty) Brooks predeceased her.
Margaret loved her time living at Heywood Wakefield Commons in Gardner the last few years. She enjoyed the staff and friends she made while living there.

There is no service. Burial will take place at the Veteran's Cemetery, Winchendon. Memorial donations may be made to Heywood Wakefield Commons Activity Fund, 50 Pine St., Gardner, MA 01440. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden, is assisting the family with arrangements.
