HOPKINTON - Marcia W. Preston, 85, died Saturday, October 29, 2005, in her room at St. Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, surrounded by her loving family.
She is survived by William Preston, her husband of 61 years, of Framingham; her sons, William Preston, Jr., of Holden and Craig Preston of Marlboro; and grandsons, Sean Preston of Boston and Eric Preston of Baldwinville.
Marcia was born in Hartford, Connecticut on May 27, 1920, daughter of Theodosia Protheroe of New York and Clarence Emery of Vermont. She was a graduate of the Northfield School for Girls, 1938, and Hood College, 1942, in Frederick, Maryland, where she majored in English and Biology. During World War II, Marcia worked as a manager for Aetna in Hartford. She later taught English and Math at the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. A longtime resident of Hopkinton, Marcia was active in her community, wrote short stories, painted, and had a lifelong passion for poetry, literature, and the arts. She was a devoted wife and mother, and a loyal friend.
A memorial service for Marcia will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Worcester, 90 Holden Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Lung Association, 1 Abbey Lane, Middleboro, MA 02346. Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden, is directing arrangements.
