HOLDEN - HOLDEN – Malcolm A. Mackay, age 69, died Wednesday, January 28, 2015, after very tiresome battles with various cancers during the last years of his life.
Malcolm was born in Cambridge, on July 3, 1945, son of the late Malcolm and Gertrude (Hagan) Mackay. He was a native New Englander and spent his early and teen years in Winchester. He received degrees from three different colleges and universities in New England. He began his professional career as an x-ray tech and worked in various positions in the healthcare industry including holding the position of Vice President of Managed Care Services at Saint Rafael’s Hospital in New Haven Connecticut.
Mal loved animals, the ocean, photography, music and cycling. He embraced optimism and through cancer, became more mindful of living in the moment and came to treasure small get-togethers with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa Patel of Meza, AZ, son, James and his wife Kerri, of Hudson, NH. Mal was extremely proud of his loving grandchildren, Michael Mackay, Matthew Mackay, Tyler Patel, Adam Mackay and Hannah Mackay. He leaves behind his 12-year-old true soul mate and guardian angel, his golden retriever Zoe. He is survived by two very close friends, LouAnn and Dave, who quickly evolved from co-workers to sincere friends, directly into the role of loving sister and brother; and a supportive and caring friend Paula Jean.
No formal services will be held, other than a simple immediate family remembrance. Mal did request that he would like others, upon hearing of his passing, to do something nice, such as rescue a pet, donate to a food bank or clothing drive, or offer a hand to an elderly or infirmed neighbor. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, can help change a world that desperately needs it.
