STERLING – Hazel Mae (Stuart) McMaster, 78, of Redemption Rock Trail, died Wednesday, February 4, 2009 in the Life Care Center of Leominster.
Her husband of 52 years, Wilfred McMaster, died in 2000. She leaves two sons, Douglas A. McMaster of Gardner and Steven S. McMaster of Sterling; four daughters, Joyce E. Burdett of Douds, Iowa, Marilyn G. McMaster of Harrisville, NH, Hazel E. Houseman of Shrewsbury and Kathleen S. Maeder of Westminster; two sisters, Ruth E. Gagnon and Carole L. Patrinelli, both of Ormond Beach, FL; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was born in Lynn, daughter of Lloyd G. and G. Everlina (Hilbourn) Stuart, and lived in Billerica before moving to Sterling in 1956.
Hazel was a graduate of Howe High School in Billerica and worked for Micro Networks in Worcester for several years, before retiring in 1989. Previously she worked for Colonial Press in Clinton and after her retirement she worked for Sew-Fro Fabrics in Worcester. She was a member of the First Church in Sterling, the Sterling Council on Aging, the Nature Conservancy and the Arbor Day Foundation. She was a former member of the Smithsonian Institution and the American Indian Museum.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 2 to 4 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 4 p.m. on Sunday, February 8th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling. Spring burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sterling. The family suggests donations be made to the Sterling Council on Aging, P.O. Box 243, Sterling, MA 01564.
