February 6, 1922 — March 3, 2014

Biography
HOLDEN – Mae Bertha Bethel Young Lobban passed away on March 3, 2014 at age 92 in Scranton (PA) Regional Hospital. Born February 6, 1922 in Wilmington MA, to Mae L. Young and Walter Sawyer, Mae grew up on a farm, one of 11 children. She was very "proper" and often wore fancy white dresses. Feeling she wanted more than farm life, she sought a good education.

Mae attended Old South School, Buzzell Middle School and Wilmington High School, graduating in 1938. She attended and graduated from Katherine Gibbs Secretary School, Boston, after which she worked at John Hancock, Mass Bonding, Hanover Insurance, Filene’s and Shawmut Bank in Holden. Mae would often walk 3 miles a day to the train station to get to school and eventually to work.

On July 3, 1948, Mae married John Lobban. They moved to Watertown where their only child, daughter Joan, was born in 1959. The family relocated to Holden, MA until 2007, when they retired to Wesley Village in Pittston, PA to be near their daughter and her husband, Joel Cohen. Mae and John regularly attended Chaffin Congregational Church in Holden.

Mae was predeceased by husband, John in 2012 and by daughter, Joan in 2013. She is survived by sisters, Bessie Crogan (Burns), Judith Bradley (Trask), Verna Stowell (Doherty) and Marjorie Thibeault (Trask). Other siblings were Ermest Burns, Lester Burns, Erlmest Burns, Louis Doherty, Mary Doherty and James Trask. Mae is also survived by 9 nieces, 19 nephews and 38 grand nieces and nephews. Mae always had great faith in God's direction for her life. Just a day before her passing she said. “God has a plan for my life and if it is to be...it will be."

A Funeral Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, with a calling hour at 3 p.m. Spring burial will be in Grove Cemetery, Holden.
