RUTLAND – Madeline A. (Pond) Jacobs, 63, of 9 Edson Avenue, died Friday, August 25, 2006, in Saint Vincent Hospital after a brief illness.
She leaves three sons, Brian Hawkins of Wyoming, Robert (Holdorf) Hawkins of Rutland and Michael J. Holdorf of Grafton; her mother, Agnes G. (Locker) Pond of Rutland; and two grandchildren, Tirzah J. and Judah Hawkins of Wyoming; and her fiance, Julius Varga. Her brother, Albert “Butch” W. Pond died in 2003 and her brother, James E. Pond died in 1971. She was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Clarence A. Pond, and lived in Rutland since 1957.
Madeline was a 1961 graduate of Wachusett Regional High School. She was Assistant Manager of the Honey Farms in Holden, and previously she worked for several area restaurants. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Rutland, the Lion’s Club of Rutland and was an honorary deputy sheriff of the Worcester County Sheriff Department. Most of all, Madeline loved the outdoors and spending time with her family.
The funeral service for Madeline will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, in the First Congregational Church of Rutland, 264 Main Street. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue (Rte. 56), Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. In lieu of flowers, donations in Madeline’s memory may be sent to the Memorial Fund, First Congregational Church, P.O. Box 484, Rutland, MA 01543.
