STERLING – Madeleine J. (Murningham) Grinkis, 78, passed away on Sunday, July 18, 2021 at Rose Monahan Hospice Home in Worcester. She was born in Nashua, NH, the daughter of John and Antoinette (Morin) Murningham and had lived most of her life in Sterling.
Madeleine was an administrator in the Graduate School of Geography at Clark University for 23 years where she enjoyed interacting with and supporting students from all over the world. She received the distinction of employee of the year for her steadfast reliability and service. She enjoyed golf, reading true crime, cribbage, quilting, sewing, bird-watching, and gardening. She was also an avid New England sports fan, a shrewd poker player and loved playing Mah-Jongg with her friends.
With her husband, John C. Grinkis, Jr., who passed in 2014, she enjoyed many years of travel throughout the United States, to Europe and the Castles of England & Wales.
She leaves her sons, Mark B. Grinkis and his fiancée, Judy Potter of Sterling and Matt W. Grinkis and his wife, Stacey of Hubbardston; her daughter, Carmen M. Grinkis and her wife, Kathrine Lovell of Tiverton, RI; and her granddaughter, Ania Grinkis.
Friends and family are invited to visit with Madeleine’s family on Wednesday, July 21st from 10 – 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. in the Miles-Sterling Funeral and Tribute Center, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Sterling Land Trust,
