HOLDEN – M. Rita Powers, 88, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation-Walden in West Concord after an illness.
She leaves four nephews, Thomas F. Powers III of Keene, New Hampshire, Dennis M. Powers of Southington, Connecticut, Emmett F. Powers of Wethersfield, Connecticut and Jack Powers of Washington; two nieces, Nancy Powers Graham of Billerica and Ellen Powers of Salt Lake City, Utah. Three brothers, Edmond, John and Thomas Powers and a sister, Mary Powers, predeceased her.
Rita was born in Worcester, the daughter of Thomas and Margaret (O’Neill) Powers. She was raised in Worcester and graduated from South High School and Fairchild Business School. Rita was an office manager for 40 years at R. J. Toomey Company in Worcester retiring in 1995. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Jefferson, enjoyed spending time in her garden and loved to travel.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 20th, in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden, followed by a 12 noon Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church, 114 Princeton Street, Jefferson. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge Street, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Minute Man Arc (supporting people with developmental & intellectual disabilities), 1269 Main Street, Concord, MA 01742.
