Lurana H. (Morse) Sandstrom

April 25, 1931 — April 14, 2012

RUTLAND – Lurana H. (Morse) Sandstrom, 80, of Anthony Drive, died peacefully under the loving care of her family and the staff at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Worcester on Saturday, April 14, 2012. She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Chester and Evelyn L. (Mosher) Morse and lived in Princeton, MA, New Haven, CT, before moving to Rutland in 1961.



Lurana graduated from Princeton High School and Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. After graduating nursing school, she worked as a registered nurse at the Yale –New Haven Infirmary. She later worked 20 years at Holden District Hospital, and several years at both Rutland Heights Hospital and Wachusett Extended Care Facility in Holden. She attended the First Congregational Church of Rutland.



Lurana will always be remembered as a compassionate and caring nurse, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed her many vacations at Horseneck Beach in Westport and Myrtle Beach. During retirement, Lurana and Donald enjoyed winters in Florida. She also enjoyed cooking, camping and collecting sea shells.



Her husband of 55 years, Donald H. Sandstrom died in 2010. She is survived by a son, Donald R. Sandstrom and his wife Tammy of Douglas; two daughters, Laurel A. Locke and her companion Marc Campbell of Rutland and Cynthia J. Sandstrom and her companion John Brule of Holden; a brother, Richard C. Morse of Zephyrll Hills, FL; a sister, Pauline Morse of Salt Lake City, Utah; 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; nephews and nieces.



Relatives and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Lurana from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, at the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street (Rte. 122A), Holden. The Rev. Robyn Burns will be officiating. Burial will be private at Rural Cemetery in Rutland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts Chapter, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
