Louise Holden

November 28, 1928 — July 8, 2023

WORCESTER - Louise Holden, a loving mother and grandmother, peacefully passed surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, July 8, 2023. She was born in Worcester on November 28, 1928, to Philip and Elizabeth (Hanlan) Malm.

Louise was a graduate of Commerce High School and earned a degree in Early Childhood Education at Worcester State College. She went on to teach preschool at Living and Learning in Shrewsbury and the Jewish Community Center Preschool in Worcester.

Louise loved to travel, visiting Florida, California, Ireland, cruises to Bermuda and a life changing trip to the Holy Land, where she rode on a camel in Egypt. But mostly she enjoyed spending her summers with her family at their home on Cape Cod basking in the sun. She loved tole painting, gardening, playing the piano and giving lessons to her grandchildren.

Louise loved her faith and was a devout Catholic and a long-time member of St. George’s Church in Worcester, where she volunteered for many years at the Adoration Chapel.

She is survived by her five children, her daughters, Kathie and Elaine Holden of Worcester, her sons, David Holden and his wife, Eileen of Worcester, Christopher Holden and his wife, Sharon of West Boylston and Michael Holden and his fiancé, Caryn O’Connor of Auburn. Beloved grandmother to her grandchildren, Meghan Holden of Boston, Jessica Rooney and her husband, Mack of Shrewsbury, Joshua Holden and his wife, Molly Scannell of Worcester, Tony Leuci of Worcester, Emily Miller and her husband, Nick of Walpole; nieces and nephews and their families.

Louise was predeceased by her parents, her husband Francis Holden, her brother Philip Malm and his wife Virginia, her nephews Stephen and Greg Malm and her dear friend George Butler.

Louise’s family would like to extend their gratitude to all the wonderful staff at Notre Dame Long Term Care for their care and compassion that was shown to her during her stay.

Family and friends are invited to gather with the family for a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at St. George’s Church, 38 Brattle Street, Worcester at 10:00 am on Friday, July 21, 2023. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery in Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Notre Dame Health Care, 555 Plantation Street, Worcester MA 01605. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden. Louise was so loved and will be greatly missed by her family.
