Kenneth Louis Bates

HOLDEN – Kenneth Louis Bates, 97, formerly of Holt Road, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 in Overlook Masonic Health Center, Charlton.

His beloved wife of 72 years, Marjorie C. (Coggeshall) Bates died in 2008. He leaves three sisters, Winifred Manson of New Hampshire, Afton Witham of Maine and Jean Hilton of Rochester, NH; and several nieces and nephews including Judith E. Sikes of Holden and Carol E. Stys of Tewksbury. He was born in Orono, Maine the son of Clarence A. and Edith (Butler) Bates and lived 62years in Holden.

Ken graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine and was a registered professional engineer. He was an instructor and a sales representative at Norton Company in Worcester where he worked for 37 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of several technical societies including the American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers, and he lectured extensively concerning his wide experience in the fields of engineering, selling and training. He was an active member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Holden where he served two terms as a Vestry member.

The funeral service for Ken will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 21st, in St. Francis Episcopal Church, 70 Highland Street (Rte. 31), Holden. Burial will be private in Fairview Cemetery, Westford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Francis Episcopal Church, 70 Highland Street, Holden, MA 01520. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden.
