SOUTH LANCASTER – Louis G. Morin, 96, of Sterling Road, died on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Christopher House in Worcester after an illness.
He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn (Raymond) Morin and his daughter, Marie (Morin) Schofield who died in 1998. Mr. Morin is survived by two grandsons, Brian Schofield of East Douglas and Scott Schofield of Webster; two great granddaughters, Ashley Marie Schofield of East Douglas and Cheyanne Marie Schofield of Webster; several nieces and nephews; and a close friend, Cecilia E. Thurlow of South Lancaster. A brother, Emile Morin and two sisters, Alice Hebert and Anita Akerlund predeceased him. He was born in Worcester on July 30, 1913, the son of Joseph and Leocadie (Bolduc) Morin and lived in Worcester prior to moving to South Lancaster in 2000.
Mr. Morin graduated from St. Joseph's High School in Worcester and worked for the U.S. Post Office for 37 years, retiring in 1980. He was an Army Staff Sergeant during World War II, serving in the European African Middle Eastern Theater and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He was a member of the Retired Men's Club of Greendale, having served on the Board of Directors, as secretary of its Project Committee and over the years as Chairman or Co-Chairman of several different committees. He was a Greendale tour leader for many years, volunteered at the Auburn Senior Center and enjoyed worldwide travel to 23 countries, ballroom dancing, reading, and playing cribbage with his many friends at the Clinton Senior Center.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 19th, in the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road (Rte. 12), Sterling, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John The Evangelist Church, 80 Union Street, Clinton. Burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Home, 101 Plantation Street, Worcester, 01604.
