RUTLAND – Lorraine M. (Riley) McCarthy, 75, passed away at home on Monday, September 16, 2013 after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 39 years, Robert P. McCarthy; a son, Carl “Butch” T. Forsman, Jr. and his wife, Donna of Jefferson; a daughter, Carol G. Forsman and her life partner, Ronald Worley of Barre; two step-sons, Michael J. McCarthy of West Warren and Marc B. McCarthy of Palmer; two daughters-in-law, Sharon Forsman of Maine and Denise Herbst-Wagner of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, William Spradlin and his wife Gwen and Rickey Spradlin; two sisters, Mary Jane Spickard and her husband Teddy and Leona LaPradd and her husband David all of Virginia; a dear and special friend, Valerie James; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by two sons, John Paul Allen Forsman and Robert E. Forsman.
Lorraine was born on August 2, 1938 in Tewksbury, the daughter of Elizabeth (Riley) Spradlin and had lived most of her life in Rutland. She was a devoted, hard-working hostess and tended bar at Val’s Restaurant. She also worked at Vinny’s and the Jefferson House Restaurants all in Holden. Previously, she was a dietary and housekeeping supervisor at the former Rutland Heights Hospital. Lorraine was the first woman baseball coach of the Rutland Farm League and was a Cub Scout and 4H leader. She was a talented decorator and enjoyed trimming her house beautifully during the holidays. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a calling hour on Thursday, Sept. 19, from 11 to 12 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12 noon in the Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A committal service will follow at Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
